Toshiba Canvio Connect II (2TB) Review

The Toshiba Canvio Connect 2TB is not just a basic storage drive but offers several premium features at an affordable price. This backup drive includes personal cloud software, Windows backup software and a slim size that gets easily inside the jeans pocket. Though it doesn’t have larger capacity, speed like Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive (4TB), but its still a considerable option in the budget.

Design and Features

This external hard drive measures 0.77 by 3.07 by 4.29 inches (HWD) and weighs 8.1 ounces. Though it’s smaller in size with WD My Passport Ultra 2TB have the same capacity.

The drive comes in white, red, blue, black and satin gold colour. The drive has six sides all covered with the metallic finish, the bottom of the panel is matte white. There’s a circular activity light at the top, while the backs contain USB 3.0 port for the included USB cable.

Though it’s the highest capacity is only 2TB, but it still can take backups of most desktops or any current laptop. The drive comes pre-formatted with NTFS with a drive for OS X. If you want to use the drive for Mac you can reformat it for an HFS+ format. Similarly, exFAT allows you to write to the drive from both OS X and Windows regardless of having a driver.

NTI Backup Now EZ comes with the drive for backup up Windows PCs. Similarly, the PogoPlug PC allows you to host personal cloud services on your laptop or desktop. It works in a way that you need to keep the PC on to keep the PogoPlug active, but then just connect the drive with internet to access the files. Unlike the Seagate Backup Plus with 200GB of Microsoft OneDrive online storage, the PogoPlug online service offers 10GB of cloud storage. The drive is available in 3TB, 1TB, and 500GB capacities with a two-year warranty.

Performance and Cost

This storage drive is fast but slower than Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive, but still faster than Adata HE720 and the Buffalo MiniStation Extreme NFC.

The price per gigabytes is significantly less. The latter drive does come with some security extras that justify the higher cost.

 

The Toshiba Canvio Connect II (2TB) offers premium looks and features. With a finish giving the feel of aluminium and magnesium-alloy laptops and tablets, it comes in five different colors. The drive provides economical storage for your personal files and backups and is reasonably fast while in operation.

Overall, Toshiba Canvio Connect II is a pocket-size storage drive with 2TB storage space and a hanful of premium features like personal cloud software, color options, for less than $120.
